"Another Simple Favor" Sequel: Glamour, Deceit, and Twins in Capri

Blake Lively once again graces the screen as the enigmatic and captivating Emily Nelson in the highly anticipated sequel, "Another Simple Favor." Following the stylish and suspenseful events of the 2018 hit, this new installment, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video on May 1, 2025, plunges viewers back into a world of secrets, betrayals, and undeniably chic fashion, all set against the breathtaking backdrop of Capri, Italy.

Lively, alongside Anna Kendrick returning as the determined mommy-vlogger Stephanie Smothers, reignites the electric and often treacherous dynamic that made the first film so compelling. This time, the simple favor is anything but. Stephanie finds herself begrudgingly accepting Emily's unexpected invitation to be the maid of honor at her lavish wedding to a wealthy Italian businessman, Dante Versano (Michele Morrone).

The change of scenery from suburban Connecticut to the glamorous Italian island infuses the sequel with a fresh, sun-drenched aesthetic. However, beneath the veneer of picturesque landscapes and opulent celebrations, a darker current flows. The wedding party is a melting pot of old money, potential rivals, and suspicious relatives, including Emily's estranged mother (Elizabeth Perkins, replacing Jean Smart) and her ominously nice Aunt Linda (Allison Janney). Even Emily's ex-husband, Sean Townsend (Henry Golding), is forced to attend, adding another layer of awkward tension.

As the title suggests, nothing is ever truly simple when Emily Nelson is involved. What begins as a seemingly joyous occasion quickly unravels into a complex web of lies and deadly intentions. Stephanie's amateur detective instincts are immediately on high alert, sensing that Emily's reappearance and sudden nuptials are likely masking a more sinister agenda.

Adding to the intrigue is the introduction of Emily's long-lost identical triplet, Charity (also played by Blake Lively). Raised in isolation by her manipulative Aunt Linda, Charity emerges as a key player in a shocking scheme involving identity theft and murder. This twist not only allows Lively to showcase her versatility by portraying two distinct characters but also injects a new level of psychological suspense into the narrative.

While "Another Simple Favor" retains the dark comedic tone and stylish flair of its predecessor, some critics note that the plot becomes increasingly convoluted, at times sacrificing the sharp character work that anchored the first film. However, Blake Lively's performance continues to be a standout. She effortlessly embodies Emily's captivating blend of charisma and menace, keeping the audience guessing about her true motives at every turn. Her on-screen chemistry with Anna Kendrick remains a highlight, their push-and-pull dynamic driving much of the film's entertainment value.

The costumes and the stunning Italian scenery are also frequently praised, contributing significantly to the film's overall atmosphere. Lively, in particular, shines in a series of increasingly outrageous and fashionable ensembles, further cementing Emily's status as a style icon with a dangerous edge.

Ultimately, "Another Simple Favor" delivers a dose of escapist entertainment, filled with unexpected twists and turns. While it might not recapture the precise magic of the original for all viewers, Blake Lively's compelling performance and the film's undeniably glamorous setting make it a worthwhile watch for fans of the first movie and those who enjoy a darkly comedic mystery with a healthy dose of high fashion.
